Psychotherapy and EMDR for Montana Adults and Couples
Montana has a way of making life feel wide open, and yet the pressure doesn't disappear here. Running a seasonal business, managing a ranch or a practice, raising a family far from extended support, or carrying a demanding career from a home office in Bozeman can all wear you down in ways that are hard to name.
I offer licensed psychotherapy and EMDR therapy online to adults, couples, and families throughout the state, including Bozeman, Missoula, Big Sky, Livingston, Paradise Valley, and the Gallatin Valley. Sessions are private and flexible, with options for standard weekly sessions, extended sessions, and EMDR intensives.
About my work
I'm a licensed psychotherapist in Montana, New York, and Massachusetts and an EMDR specialist. Therapy is depth-oriented and integrative care for people across the state, wherever they live. Many of my Montana clients live an hour or more from a specialist. Online sessions mean you don't have to choose between good care and the place you call home.
An integrative approach
No single method fits everyone. I draw from several evidence-based and depth-oriented approaches and shape them around you:
EMDR therapy for trauma, painful memories, and beliefs that won't shift with insight alone
Internal Family Systems (IFS) for understanding the different parts of you that pull in different directions
Somatic approaches informed by Somatic Experiencing, for working with how stress lives in the body
Psychodynamic insight into how early experiences shape present patterns
Cognitive-behavioral strategies for practical, day-to-day change
Mindfulness and neuroscience-informed practices for steadier attention and regulation
The goal is lasting change in how you feel, relate, and live, not just better coping.
When doing everything becomes the problem
Many of the people I work with are capable, dependable, and quietly exhausted. They're the ones others rely on. They overfunction at work and at home, take on more than their share, and struggle to rest even when there's time to.
This pattern rarely comes from nowhere. Often it began as a smart way to stay safe or keep things together earlier in life, and the nervous system simply never got the message that the emergency ended. Seen that way, overfunctioning isn't a character flaw. It's a strategy that has outlived its usefulness.
In therapy, we look at where the pattern started, what it protects, and what it costs you now. With EMDR, IFS, and somatic work, many people find they can set boundaries without guilt, slow down without anxiety, and keep their ambition without burning out.
EMDR therapy for Trauma and negative experiences
Past experiences have a way of showing up in the present: a reaction that's bigger than the moment calls for, a fear you know isn't rational, a sense of shame that arrives out of nowhere. EMDR therapy helps the brain process stuck memories and patterns, so they lose their emotional charge and stop driving your reactions today.
EMDR has strong research support for trauma and PTSD and is recommended by the World Health Organization and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. It translates well to online sessions, using on-screen eye movements, self-tapping, or alternating tones through headphones. We always begin with careful preparation, so you have reliable ways to steady yourself before we approach anything difficult.
People seek EMDR in Montana for many reasons, including:
accidents, medical trauma, or sudden loss
difficult childhood experiences
relationship betrayal
the cumulative toll of high-stress or first-responder work
For those who want focused progress, I also offer EMDR intensives: longer sessions over a few days that allow deeper work in a shorter time frame.
Couples therapy in Montana
Stress has a way of landing on the relationship. One partner overfunctions while the other pulls back, arguments loop, and closeness gets replaced with logistics. Couples therapy helps you see the pattern you're caught in together and find your way out of it.
We work on:
communicating honestly without escalating
rebuilding trust after betrayal or rupture
sharing responsibility more fairly
restoring emotional and physical intimacy
navigating parenting, career changes, relocation, and other big transitions
Couples sessions take place online, which makes them easier to schedule for partners with demanding or seasonal work. I welcome couples of all identities and relationship structures, including same-gender couples, gender-expansive partners, and ethically non-monogamous relationships.
Calming an overworked nervous system
For many high achievers, constant pressure keeps the body braced. Rest can feel uncomfortable or even unsafe. In therapy, we pay attention to how stress shows up physically, in your sleep, breathing, muscle tension, and reactivity, and build practices that help your system settle. Over time, calm stops being something you have to force and becomes something you can return to.
Who I work with
Montana clients often reach out during a hard season or a turning point. My practice is a good fit for:
professionals, executives, and business owners
entrepreneurs and people running seasonal or tourism-driven businesses
creatives and high-performing individuals
adults facing burnout, anxiety, or the effects of trauma
couples working through conflict, betrayal, or major transitions
midlife adults reassessing work, relationships, and identity
How online therapy works in Montana
All sessions take place over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Because I'm licensed in Montana, you'll need to be physically located in Montana during each session. You'll also want a private space where you can talk freely, a stable internet connection, and headphones, which help with privacy and with EMDR.
Online therapy isn't the right fit for everyone. If you're in crisis or need a higher level of care, I'll help you find in-person or more intensive support. If you are in immediate danger, call or text 988 or go to your nearest emergency room.
Begin therapy in Montana
If you're ready for support that's thoughtful, private, and grounded in real clinical expertise, I'd be glad to talk. We'll start with a consultation to understand what's bringing you in and whether my approach is a good match.
